Dress made of Paper

Inspired by origami, using tessellations and paper as a medium, as well as the little black dress, I created this dress solely out of paper and folded everything by hand. It’s always an interesting experience for me when it comes to creating fashion because I’m probably the complete opposite of a fashion major, but I’ve come to love using underestimated mediums. This piece is heavily influenced by the artist Amelia Hrustic and her collection “Plato’s collection” which is inspired by the Platonic solids. I am displaying it on a mannequin and not a person because the entire point of this piece is that it’s supposed to be viewed as an artistic object rather than wearable clothing. I wanted to overcome what makes the little black dress so wearable and versatile and break through its purpose to make a work of art.

Inspired by exoskeletons of clam shells and the lobster, I created armour for the male figure using vinyl, different plastics and hardware.
